Spiritual Labelling: Indigoes and Crystals and “Regular Folks”

This article is related to a phenomenon I’m seeing lately as a result of people “waking up” to their spiritual nature. People are looking for answers about who they are and what they’re doing on the planet, especially during these times of paradigm shift (Pisces to Aquarius), and they’re finding a lot of information in the form of New Age-type terminology.

Now, I understand how exciting it is to find information about one’s personal spiritual nature, especially considering how the spiritual component of life in North America is often not even on the radar screen. So when you do actually find someone writing or speaking about these concepts, it can be a total light bulb moment. Finally! My life makes sense. I understand why I’ve experienced what I’ve experienced. I’m an Indigo! Phew! Case closed. (Or Crystal, or Rainbow, or Starseed, or reincarnated Pleiadian royalty, etc. - For illustration purposes in this article, I’m using the concepts of indigo and crystal because these are terms I understand personally. I’m sure the points made can be adapted for people who associate themselves with star groups or other outer-worldly forces, as well.)

Entire generations of children are now being labelled. “The New Children,” “The Indigo Generation,” “The Rainbow Children,” and the list goes on. “My first child is an Indigo. My second is a Crystal.” Etc.

The problem with these terms is that they’re a little too simplistic, a little too cut-and-dry. People can actually embody and use any number of these vibrations, depending on what the circumstances call for…switching back and forth or using multiple layers all at once. And rather than being accessible only by certain “special spiritual” people or generations of children, these vibrations are being awoken in many, many people at this point in time - anyone who chooses, really.

To me, once these terms are used beyond informational purposes to the point of becoming rigid labels and groups, they’re actually counter-productive. They’re then separating people with indigo and crystal vibrations from “the rest of them.” Ironically, that type of divisive thinking is exactly what indigo and crystal vibrations are working to break down! Using the indigo or crystalline vibration isn't meant to separate a person from the rest of the population. The very reason so many people are taking this work on is to bring about an integration and evolution in the mainstream society - for all of us.

Rather than labels (I am this; you are that), the terms indigo and crystal are a New Age reference to vibrations that people can embody and use in their work on the planet. The words themselves refer to the colours seen in people’s auras by aura readers.

OK, so what is indigo? People with a strong indigo vibration are associated with being spiritual warriors. They are the system-busters. They are here to break down unjust and exclusionary dynamics, ideologies, systems, and hierarchies so that our structures can be recreated in a form that works for everyone. They are square pegs and the cultural structures (“the way things are”) are the round holes. They were born not fitting, and they understand on a deep level that “the way things are” is unacceptable as long as it works for some and not for others. While other people go about their daily lives, unaware that anything is even wrong, people with a strong indigo vibration are simply unable to fit in and go along. They just CAN’T because their intrinsic nature makes them unable to function within certain confines. Indigo missions relate to going into systems and structures that are not working and trying to break them down, while attempting to bring the problems with the situation to light. People who take on these missions must be very sensitive and intuitive, trusting their own perceptions even when the people around them think they are crazy. The have a strong will, an unshakeable allegiance to themselves and to their inner guidance. They have strong emotional empathy so that they can feel out complex problems and gauge danger. They have the traits of a warrior so they can go into extremely difficult (often dangerous) situations and do the work that is there to be done. They have X-Ray vision and eyes in the back of their heads so they can see beneath the surface and understand all layers of a situation - physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual. Often they are in situations where the powers-that-be are not too happy with what they’re trying to do. Remember - the current structures work very well for some people! They have intense powers of regeneration so they can process the negative energies they encounter and recover. In an extreme sense, they would rather die than continue as things are, and many have risked or lost their lives doing work under this vibration. (People like Martin Luther King, Jr., The Famous Five, the protester killed at Tiananmen Square, Michael Moore, etc. can be seen as using this vibration.)

Now, of course, not everyone lives this vibration on a day-to-day basis. But this vibration is accessible to anyone who chooses it. Anytime someone sees something that doesn't work and tries to point it out, to find a better way, the person is using indigo. Anytime someone sees something they perceive as unjust and tries to do something about it, that's the indigo vibe. Anytime someone goes beneath the surface and digs out a truth that other people don't see or don't want to believe is there...that's indigo.

So you can see the vast number of applications of this vibration.

OK, now crystal. The crystal/crystalline vibration is related to setting and holding a vibration of complete unconditional love, transparency, peace and harmony on the planet. A person embodying this vibration has the ability to be oneself (and One) completely. Crystal is related to Christ (Chryst) consciousness and is an understanding that everything that exists is interconnected. We are one energy, the energy of divine love, and no separation exists. We are together, connected. We are God, God is us. With this vibration, there is no separation between physical and spiritual, so what exists on Earth is experienced as divine, as are all the creations on the planet. There is a sense of wholeness. People embodying this vibration will be crystal clear with an energy of transparency. Telepathic communication, psychic abilities, the ability to move objects…these are all qualities related to crystal vibration. People embodying this vibration are living as part of the whole, understanding that energetically, we are all one. Hating someone else is hating ourselves, so there is no need for it.

So rather than only a “special” group or generation of people, is this not the basic form of a human, stripped down to the bare essentials? Every time a person chooses to love instead of hate, to forgive instead of condemn, to see how we are connected as humans instead of hiding behind the usual social/cultural/religious/race barriers - every time someone does this, he or she is embodying the crystal vibration.

Far from classifying people into a box, indigo and crystal work together. The heavy lifting is/has been done by people embodying the indigo vibration. They clear the way and take on the parts of the whole that need change, so that the crystal vibration can survive on the planet. It’s not a spiritual hierarchy. The vibrations and people using them are comrades.

And at the core level, we all have access to these qualities. At this time, these vibrations are being activated in many, many people, not just in certain generations. Certain generations are/were populated with more people strongly carrying and using these vibrations, but now, the movement of it is being carried forward by a huge number of people. The overall goal is not to have an "us/them" situation with a rigid classification system dividing us up into different categories. The goal is for every human on Earth to wake up to these vibrations in themselves. "Indigoes" and "Crystals" aren't stand alones anymore. Everyone has to do the work to uncover these characteristics in themselves. We all have the capacity for them.

Yes, terminology can be helpful. Classifying one’s experience can definitely have a much-needed validating effect. It can be a God-send (and is!). But the concepts behind the terms are in a constant state of evolution. The problem I see is when we latch onto the classifications, the labels, instead of using them for understanding and then moving forward. When we align ourselves with the words rather than the work.

So I would suggest that the terms indigo or crystal are more verb than noun, more of a process, an evolving vibration, rather than a static thing that a person "is." Just interact with people (and children) as who they are as individuals. If they're sensitive, appreciate their sensitivity. If they have psychic or intuitive abilities, appreciate that. Don't try to stick a label on what they "are." In reality, there's no such thing as a "regular kid" versus an "Indigo" or “Crystal.” Just some kids embodying those vibrations more fully than other's, taking on that work more fully. It's societal work. We're all working together to break this stuff down. Doesn't matter whether you're the person within the system or the person hell-bent on breaking it down. The work is what's important, not the labels.
